People from every population are sexually assaulted. People of all ethnic backgrounds, men and women, children and elder adults, rich and poor, married and single.

• Most assailants take advantage of a power imbalance of age, size, strength, development, knowledge, status, etc. to humiliate, violate, and control the victim
• 1 in 3 women, 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 33 men will be victims of sexual assault.
• On average, 3 women are killed by their husband/boyfriend every day.
• 70 out of every 100,000 females in the country were rape victims (1997).
• 1.5 million women and 834,700 men are raped annually.

By revealing crimes within the US map, Eyes Open enables the exploration of the psychological and physical aspects of sexual assault, such as the relationship between attacker and victim, the type of self-defense employed, the outcome of self-defense, crime location, and several others.

Through this level of interaction, Eyes Open provides insight into the relationships between action and outcome and enables patterns to be revealed.

Developed as an alternative to traditional statistics, Eyes Open presents a better understanding of the factors involved with sexual assault and is an excellent learning or presentation tool.
